Injury Prevention
Each year, as many children lose their lives due to injuries,
as all other causes combined. Injuries are also among the most
likely causes for a child to be hospitalized. Still, there are
many misconceptions surrounding childhood injuries. We often think
of injuries as being the result of an "accident" or
"bad luck" - and though most injuries are unintentional,
studies repeatedly show that both the occurrence and seriousness
of most injuries can in fact be prevented. So one of the very
best ways to actively protect your child's health is through injury
prevention.
Paying closer attention to your child is of course a good place
to start, but it is unrealistic to think that you can catch a
child's every move. And so it is key to know when and where injuries
are likely to occur and to take preventative measures that minimize
the opportunities for injuries - before they happen.
